Orchestra concert = so much fun. I'm kind of sad that I'll never play Russian Easter Overture again. But everything went so well.

I saw this on the DF friends page earlier today; I forget who it was who posted it. I thought it would be amusing to see how much of the alphabet I could do…
( The Favourite Literary Characters Alphabet Meme )
Funny. Q through V were really easy to do; I had to think a lot harder about most of the rest of it. And I managed to do nearly the whole thing without resorting to alphabetising someof the characters by their last names.XD |

…it seems like one, especially when I look at my last entry. XD I actually got this from AP Lit–my teacher is going to actually have us do this in some form right before the AP as a review. But anyway, the point is to come up with a song that relates to a character or characters from a work of literature for whatever reason. I've been thinking about it ALL DAY now.
Most of these are Beatles songs for no other reason than that basically the only popular-music CD I have is the Beatles CD "1". XD And musicals (including some Gilbert and Sullivan, LOL). And a few other really famous popular songs (so famous that even I have heard of or even heard them).
This may be updated if I get more good/cool/funny ideas.
Dante's Inferno Dante: "Let It Be" (The Beatles), "Paperback Writer" (The Beatles), "A Change In Me" (Beauty and the Beast) Tess of the d'Urbervilles Tess: "Yesterday" (The Beatles), "I Dreamed a Dream" (Les Mis) Angel: "She Loves You" (The Beatles) Tess and Angel: "We Can Work It Out" (The Beatles), "The Long and Winding Road" (The Beatles), "A Heart Full Of Love" (Les Mis), "Stonehenge" (Spinal Tap) Alec: "Me" (Beauty and the Beast), "Lonely Room" (Oklahoma)?
The Things They Carried All the characters: "Bring Him Home" (Les Mis), "Yellow Submarine" (The Beatles) Tim, Norman Bowker: "Empty Chairs At Empty Tables" (Les Mis)
The Sound and the Fury Benjy: "Lift Me Up" (The Secret Garden)? Quentin: "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams" (Green Day), "Eleanor Rigby" (The Beatles), "Javert's Suicide" (Les Mis)–if only for the jumping-off-a-bridge thing, Harvard Alma Mater, "Is life a boon?" (The Yeomen of the Guard) Jason: "Stars" (Les Mis)–sort of Caddy: "All You Need Is Love" (The Beatles), "I Can't Say No" (Oklahoma), "A Little Fall Of Rain" (Les Mis)–referring, of course, to the water/rain motif Quentin-the-girl: "Castle On a Cloud" (Les Mis)?
Beloved Denver: "The Girl I Mean To Be" (The Secret Garden) Paul D: "The Long and Winding Road" (The Beatles) Sethe: "Home" (Beauty and the Beast)
The Great Gatsby Gatsby: "If I Can't Love Her" (Beauty and the Beast),"Where In the World" (The Secret Garden), "I am the very model of a modern major-general" (The Pirates of Penzance) Daisy: "Shut Up and Dance" (My Favourite Year) Nick Carraway: "Mr. Cellophane" (Chicago) All the characters: "What a Remarkable Age" (Titanic), "Doing the Latest Rag" (Titanic), "Masquerade" (Phantom of the Opera)
The Merchant of Venice Antonio: "Yesterday" (The Beatles), "Home" (Beauty and the Beast), "On My Own" (Les Mis) Bassanio: "Can't Buy Me Love" (The Beatles), "I Feel Fine" (The Beatles) Antonio and Bassanio: "People Will Say We're In Love" (Oklahoma)–for those who think that there's something more than a platonic relationship going on between them…XD Jessica: "Home" (Beauty and the Beast), "Far From the Home I Love" (Fiddler On the Roof)
Madame Bovary Emma: "I want adventure in the great wide somewhere" (Beauty and the Beast) Charles: "A Hard Day's Night" (The Beatles), "Love Me Do" (The Beatles) Léon: "Something" (The Beatles), "Hey Jude" (The Beatles) Rodolphe: "Lonely Room" (Oklahoma) |

"It appears we have appointed our worst generals to command forces, and our most gifted and brilliant to edit newspapers! In fact, I discovered by reading newspapers that these editor/geniuses plainly saw all my strategic defects from the start, yet failed to inform me until it was too late. Accordingly, I'm readily willing to yield my command to these obviously superior intellects, and I'll, in turn, do my best for the Cause by writing editorials - after the fact."

While discussing Dante's Inferno:
AP English Lit teacher: "What other literary devices are there in this canto?" Me: "Well, he says that they'd already gotten into the bolgia without describing them actually arriving… which is a kind of prolepsis, I guess." AP English Lit teacher: "Right." Other kid: "…Dude, you just made up that word." … AP English Lit teacher: "Who knows what metonymy is?" *looking at me* "Not you." … AP English Lit teacher: "And then there's synecdoche… not to be confused with Schenectady." Same other kid as before: "They keep making up words!" |
